Olympics Beijing 2022

It's decided. Beijing--thought to be a long shot originally--is now set to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, making it the first city to ever host both. There were only two in the running, after citizens in other cities strongly pushed back at the idea of hosting the games and underwriting the hundreds of millions to do so. Possibly remembering China's promises to straighten out human rights if awarded a Summer Olympics--and then completely ignoring that vow, the IOC's vote was surprisingly close at 40 for Almaty, Kazakhstan, and 44 for Beijing. There are some interesting articles out there about why other cities pulled out. I believe an official in Oslo said something like, "The facilities and perks the IOC wanted for themselves weren't like benefits for a sporting agency--they were like riches for a Saudi Arabian sheikh!" We have only to look to previous host cities to see disused and even crumbling expensive facilities. What a waste. My suggestion: build permanent facilities on each continent and rotate on a regular basis. Funded by proportional contributions from the nations that participate. I don't like the IOC, I don't like this pick and I don't like Bob Costas! Welp, gonna be an interesting time. Hooray for fake snow, etc.
