Visor fogging up...

I wear a visor as opposed to a full cage at JMS as I just started officiating, and I'd rather just have one helmet. Anyway, my visor fogs up something fierce when I'm on the bench or between periods (I'm a level 1 official, so I only handle squirts) when officiating. Is there anything I can do to cut this down? A chemical treatment or something?

There are a lot of visor treatments, some specific to hockey, others for motor-sports, and they all work okay. One of the keys is to keep your visor not just wet-mopped clean, but spotlessly clean, as the vapor will stick to any imperfections such as dust or scratches. It just blossoms from there. Try one of the spray-can aerosol window cleaners like Invisible Glass, use it right before you hit the ice with a clean cloth, then try to avoid touching your mask to add any oils back to the surface. If that's not enough, I've had luck with Rain-X. You'll still have the moisture, but it will bead up, and roll off without fogging the whole shield. Good luck!

Hold your breath. Yes, they have anti-fog spray. I've also heard that putting dishsoap on the visor, then washing it off prevents fog as well. Haven't ever tried it myself though, so investigate that claim before doing it!

Does your visor go below your nostrils? A smaller visor might do the trick. I only ask because that's how I fixed it in the past.

Rain-x anti fog. Works great!

Thanks for all the suggestions! My visor rests just above my nostrils, so when I breathe out most of my air goes away from the visor. I'll try holding my breath, but I'm not sure how much of a long term solution that'll be. I'm tempted to try the baby shampoo or dishsoap, but I'm afraid I might be being trolled, not that JMSer's aren't a bunch of stand up folks ;)

I use dish soap on mine every 3 or 4 times I skate and it works great. Just buff a little bit on both sides and then wipe it clean with a clean rag, but don't rinse.
