Any suggestions on the best way to communicate to a "Long Shifter" that they need to shorten their time on the ice?

Tell the Captain and have them address the person.
Other easy Minnesota type ways would be to exclude them from play, shoot the puck at them, take the puck from them, start playing their position, etc. ;-)

Get in their ear about taking shorter shifts...

Would JMS ever consider making each game have more roster spots? Like enough for one extra line for each team?
Obviously I don't know the logistics of doing something like that, if I had to guess that would make games more difficult to fill. Also might change how much the games cost, for better or worse. But it seems like in a lot of these games, given the hour and a half length, they can really start dragging during the end and some people just end up quitting early and the effort level declines rapidly. Not that it stops people from taking long shifts.
This isn't something that's exclusive to JMS either, it happens in a lot of open hockey games and there's a lot of different factors that cause this.

I experienced some long shifters last night at parade. I didn't say anything to the individual but mentioned something to the captain and he had brought it up in the pregame and again halfway into the game.
