JMS Hockey

I started skating / playing hockey around five years old, at Prosperity Playground on St. Paul's East Side. I played forward my first year of Squirts, then started playing goalie the second year. Played for Prosperity in Squirts and Pee Wees, then Johnson Area Bantams, Wes Barrette's East Side Midgets, and then two years for Johnson High School. I postponed college for a year, playing with the St. Paul Vulcans, Prosperity Juniors and the Roseville Junior Olympic Summer League--where after one of our playoff games, I was offered a scholarship to play for University of Alaska in Fairbanks (UAF). Four week's later in 1980, I was flying up to Alaska. I played two years as the starting goalie for UAF, and then played with the Alaska Gold Kings Senior A team, and won the national title in 1983. I played with the Gold Kings until 1986, when I came back to the Twin CIties after six years in Alaska. Back in the Twin Cities, I played intramural hockey at the UofM with my two brothers Tom and Brad, while all three of us were attending school there--that was a blast! I eventually got married, had two boys who I help coach and are both goalies also : ). Which leads to where I am today--almost 50, and feeling the need to start playing again to get and stay in better shape--and to have a lot of fun!! Love the game of hockey!!
