Here's an article about some newly designed goalie skates that really seem like a great concept! I can really see how this could be a huge benefit for goalies! (myself included) http://ingoalmag.com/gear/no-cowling-bauer-supreme-1s-skate-gives-goalies-edge-literally/

Well I'm sure the skates won't magically transform us into Jonathan quick.....

Ha! But isn't that the reason why so many of us by the high end gear... Because it'll make us into NHLers? lol

You can actually buy blades now that are taller from Step Steel. They do give you a better angle of attack than regular blades. When it came time to replace mine I went with these and am very happy with them. http://stepskates.com/goalie/ If you're an old school stand up goalie this wouldn't be a skate for you for sure.

bauers and the newer ccms already have a pretty tall blade with a great attack angle. The new 1s, s190 and s170 from Bauer have an even better attack angle than the ones from a couple years ago. I wouldn't recommend the extreme step steel, it gives you a better butterfly push, but it was so tall, it gave so much torsional flex in the cowling and any t pushes or shuffles felt so off balance. that was my experience with the step steel, I never tried the regular step however. I will note that the steel quality on these was second to none and held an edge so nicely and when banging the posts, they didn't get beat up like a stock Bauer steel or a stock Reebok would.

Has anyone used the stepsteel with reebok skates? Are these stepsteels rockered at all? Also, after watching the video in the link above, my lower shin straps are way too tight.

Gregory, which Reebok model do you have?

I have the standard step steel installed on 5K pumps. They did come with some rocker but it's been a while. I sharpen often and they have a bit more now, not much though.

I have a set of newer 20K's. Right now i have a 27' rocker via a local guy who works with Total Hockey - (not Westwood) with 1/2" cut. Maybe 12-18 sharpenings on them, so not very much. The blades are very good, but I've been kicking out on my laterals lately which had led me to the stepsteel info.

Are those the short cowling skates?

They are shorter than my old 5K's

Gregory, I would recommend trying the step steel, just don't go with the Extreme Steps. those are actually much longer blades than stock. Haakan, If you want to know more about my experience, I believe we skate together tonight at EP.
