Dakota Country Ice Times?
5/28/2013
Andrew Paul
I live in Eagan currently, any interest in getting more Ice time in dakota county? :)
5/29/2013
John Hornsten
Yes!! I go to Wakota a lot, but most of the other ice times are a good 30+ minute drive for me.

OK guys, that's two. We need a heck of a lot more than that. If one of you is wiling to be the lead person, please contact me with the number of interested skaters, what night is best for everyone and what location is best for everyone. And we'll go from there!

More upper level games in Dakota County please!

Barbara I am unable to message you, I can see the option to message other users but not you.

I'm all for more ice in Dakota County! I play at Burnsville and Wakota right now but if you were able to get ice say maybe in Lakeville or Rosemount, that'd be sweet and I KNOW many people who'd be interested. Let me know if it's even plausible or if you've tried those rinks before.

I am in for more ice time in Dakota county, especially if it was a level 4 skate.

Anything southeast or east metro would be great.

Five skaters, one goalie--though that's assuming an all-level skate as the level permissions vary so widely.
To make this game work, we will need (1) enough people who agree to the same night, (2) enough people who agree to all skate at the same rink, (3) enough people for whatever level the game will be (can't count ULCS players in total if most interested folks are LL, and vice versa--and while all-CS would solve problems, some UL and LL skaters don't like them, so it's not a panacea), and once we've got all that: (4) not just 22 skaters and 2 goalies, but a TON more people to keep the game going when players are sick, business travel, have car trouble, are out with the wife, up at the cabin, babysitting kids, etc.
If you want to be the session advocate and help get this game going, use the big blue "Get Support" button on the right to contact the JMS admins and one of us will get you started on the next steps.
For what it's worth, when considering expanding into a new area, we look at how well games are doing that are CLOSE to that area. So I'll be watching the turnout at Wakota, ULCS and LLCS, and St. Thomas, all-CS and (to a lesser extent) Monday Elite, as well as Burnsville LLCS.
I'll check in with this forum as I'm able, but do remember I have a real job that gets my attention during business hours.

I know there was a skate at VMCC in IGH (Inver Grove Heights) but it didn't get a good turn out earlier this winter. I'm all for more UL ice time in Burnsville, Apple Valley or Bloomington. The St. Thomas games always fill up and the other ice I do see is usually LL. I think the request could be updated to be for more UL in the South or SE suburbs.

I just started playing JMS and I like it, but would love it if any east metro UL ice times opened up. I live in White Bear but I think one somewhere near Woodbury/Maplewood/Oakdale could generate enough interest from guys on the east side of town to keep it going since the vast majority of the ice times are on the west side of the cities.

Lakeville doesn't have ice during the summer, and I think Rosemount is shut down now as well?

Lakeville does have ice in the summer. One rink in the Ames Arena and two rinks open at the Hasse Arena. They have ice time available throughout the summer online and I do open skate every now and then in the summer. Rosemount might be shut down but I don't know if The Pond has any ice available for our needs being they are a 3 on 3 type set-up. Rink looks big enough though......

I live in Eagan too and would love another game in the area.

I live in Rosemount. I am for more east/south east ice. I'm a level 1, but would be willing to play all level if we can't get enough lower level skaters interested.

I would love to have some games in Rosemount! I believe they put the ice back in now and at $125 an hour it's pretty reasonable.

Rosemount ice would be awesome! I will try this whole session advocate thing out and see where it goes. ;)

I'm a level 2 in Lakeville - a lower level game in Rosemount would be great - especially on Friday!

Barb so far I see approximately ten names for an upper level: Andrew Paul, John Hornsten, Michael Freeman, Brandon Pariseau, Charles Pink, William Berg, Cory Syfko, Travis Larson, Steve Mechelke, Aaron Stotko. Correct me if I am wrong. Brandon and Aaron can you get ten more interested players? Even if you guys got five players each that would give Barb her twenty or so players from the website. I am going to try and match the twenty. I assume interest will continue to build on this forum. My guess is we will have a list of 60 for the first session. Barb is correct in that we must all agree on a day and approximate time of the day. This is where the problem lies with multiple personalities and schedules to juggle. The biggest barrier I believe is cost. JMS admins need to consider a skate and play ten sessions and get one free. It shows some respect to the regulars out there who are committed. It wouldn't hurt to increase the level of commitment either. If I am skating my ninth skate I will be more motivated to skate that tenth one to get the next one on the house. If JMS got people to commit up front for a certain number of skates with a certain number of skaters in advance at specific rinks then they would have the commitments in the bank and could give a reduction in cost and possibly grow interest. Most of the players I can get are use to playing for 5-10 dollars and will more than likely agree to a mid week Wednesday at 9:00pm or 9:30pm. Later than that it gets harder to get up and go to work. Midweek helps break up the week and reduce stress for working adults. I am aware of the Upper level Wakota skate on Wednesday but half of us will not have to travel up there if it is in Rosemount. I know many of those players come from the SouthEast Metro area. Lets get those commitments! Lets get more names on this forum as a starting point. Message through JMS others interested in a skate in this Area.

Hey Michael,
Love the enthusiasm here. This is the exact sort of thing we need in order to get a new game going.
Definitely love the idea of a rewards/loyalty program and the concept of committing to multiple games early on. We actually already have something in the works for this, although it's not quite ready just yet.
There are some aspects of this that are a bit more complicated, though. Specifically in the financial realm. It's easy to rationalize a $5–$10 price point in a best case scenarios (e.g., the game always fills every week and requires little maintenance or overhead), however, that gets a bit more complicated when you start throwing some of the real world variables into it, a couple that come to mind being:
-90 minute games
-insurance for a down week (we could have a fantastic healthy session for several weeks, but a single failed game can easily put things in the red)
-the overhead involved in nurturing a brand new session
I'm not intending to damper your enthusiasm. I think we can definitely work something out. We just need to figure out a way we could make a go at this without losing our shirts. I'm going to be contacting you directly so we can talk logistics and details.

I realize it is summer and numbers will likely be lower. I keep losing options to the point that I may not be able to skate until more ice times appear. Now that the Wakota UL Wed. night is gone, I've been going to the level 4 in SLP on Tuesdays. That has low numbers this week all of a sudden. If that disappears, I really don't have a good option. I'd love some ice time in the SE metro. Maybe we just post the 'interest button' on a few SE options (various days/times/levels) to see what would 'sell' the best for Barbara??

Level 5 skater in lakeville and would live ice time in rosemount!

Daniel Palahniuk
There are 20 folks interested in the Wacota Weds. game. Is that enough to give it a go? Best.
6/25/2013
Andy Baird
No - we won't be scheduling the Wednesday night Wakota game. That placeholder has been up for weeks and it took this long to collect 20 interested players. It's unlikely that this game would be successful, so it won't be scheduled.

FYI - I can only play on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. And come hockey season, I coach and play in a league so I rarely play JMS in the winter. It might be tough to get ice at Rosemount during the season anyways - outside of playing at 10pm. There aren't a lot of rinks down here.

I am brand new and have not a made any games yet. I am a 3-4 and sunday Monday or Tuesday would be nice. Either Eagan ssp igh or rosemount even Lakeville would be good. I will keep an eye out for sure. The ssp ones I have seen have been lower level so it makes me uneligable,.

Hard to get out this summer for some of the sessions but another option in Rosemount would work for me as well. I play goalie (3-4) and skate out (3) when there are not tender spots.

Dakota county yes. L6 here though. Not sure any will open with that allowance.

I'd love to play Dakota County. I live in Apple Valley. I always wondered why there was not ice time closer to me? An upper level or comm skate at B'ville would be awesome. I understand you need people to fill it up... I will keep looking. But until then the drive is still worth it to me to play a good game of hockey so I will play pretty much anywhere.
