New to this

So I'm pretty new to this. Played hockey for a bit as a kid, well over 10 years ago. I'm looking to get back out on the ice and just go have fun. Nothing outrageously serious. Is this the place for me? What tips can anyone give me? Also, anyone looking to part ways with extra gear at a decent price? Thanks in advance.

It totally is. Try a couple pick up games here first. Then, if you get more of an itch, join a league. Once you get back out there again that first time, you'll be fine. Bring a true dark and light jersey (not orange, yellow, or silver) and full gear. Just get out there, you won't regret it. Can't help ya on the gear sale but try the "Equipment Classifieds" part of these forums, Play it Again Sports, or Sidelineswap.com. Have fun!

Sign up for lower level game and get evaluated.....you’ll have a blast in JMS. Recommend full gear.

New to this too. Are shoulder pads required? What's the required equipment needed for play? I have shinny's, helmet w/ half shield, elbows, padded shorts (or breezers). Is that enough?

Matthew, I would recommend full gear to protect from the inevitable collisions and errant pucks. I also recommend a full cage- sticks/pucks to the face happens on occasion. I can count at least 5 times my cage has prevented a visit to the ER or oral surgeon. I think JMS has posted somewhere what the “minimum” equipment required is- I think shoulders/chest is optional.

Thanks Patrick. I appreciate it. I looked for the equipment list, but couldn't find it.
