Pond Hockey - Women Wanted

The North American Pond Hockey Championships is a fun, community-based pond hockey tournament in Excelsior and will be held January 23-25 on Lake Minnetonka near Maynard’s. (This is the weekend after the pond hockey tournament on Nokomis.) I’ve personally participated in this tournament for the past five years, and it is a really great atmosphere for outdoor hockey. New this year, the women's Open Division will be split into two brackets if enough teams register to fill both. Divisions will be A/B+ (recommended age 35 and under) and B-/C (35+). While the tournament website (www.pondhockeyexcelsior.com) shows only one division for the women, we’ve been promised a second division if we can recruit enough teams. We especially need more upper level teams. Tournament registration will close when the maximum total number of men’s and women’s teams is reached, so ladies, register your team today and help us make the tournament better for the women!

As an added incentive, team captain will receive a 2015 North American Pond Hockey sweatshirt. Get your team together (8 players per team) and sign up soon!

Greetings I would be interested in joining a team and paying my share for this. I do not have any female friends that play this great sport :( Thought I am not a very good Goalie...I am okay. (I'll buy the first round, considering we may not win) Is there an option of signing up for this event then and forming a team?

Happy new Year All Thought I'd this post a "bump" and hope there is still teams looking for players. Count Me In :) Please feel free to post here if anyone needs a goalie. I can skate out, if players are needed, I am just starting this role. "I'll still buy the first round:)"

Thanks for your interest! The tournament doesn't currently offer any "guest" spots (I will suggest this for next year), so the usual way to register is as part of a team. If anyone wants to form a team, please create a post and see what interest you get! The tournament is filling up - expected to sell out their team registrations again this year - so the sooner the better. Also, play is 4 on 4 with no goalies. The goals are special "pond hockey" goals - short wooden boxes and you shoot into openings in the corners. The openings are small, so it can be hard to score (unless you're really accurate) even without goalies.

As I said in the comment above, the tournament doesn't offer individual registrations.I don't know of any teams looking for players, so you would have to form your own team.
