I am looking for cheap or free gear. I am a 5' 3" woman. I do not have skates either. I am not sure how to get a response on this forum. Here is my email mystery.amanda@ yahoo.com I am looking for any and all gear I will need. I am not sure what all I'll need. Thank you folks!

Hi Amanda, and welcome to JMS! Are you new to hockey? I have a smaller set of gear that I loan out to beginners so they can test drive the pieces to figure out what they like before they buy. But there is demand for these items, so it's a short-term loan only. Second-hand gear is available on these forums or at Play It Again and similar vendors. I hope you get some responses! My strong advice is to + BUY skates (even second-hand: Westwood Sports in Bloomington had a giant selection in the basement last time I checked--great skates used one season, going cheap) and + BUY a helmet. Neither is cheap, but they're the most important pieces. If your skates don't fit, you're in misery or falling down all night. And you have to protect your brain the best you can! Good luck! BG

I believe you are the Barb a team mate was talking about. Jennifer S told me to email you. Loaner gear would help. I am not sure how all the games/scrimmages work. Do I just show up to anything in my level range? Not needing to know anything?

Barb, just an FYI. Westwood Sports has closed their stores in Bloomington and Chanhassen. They only have a store in Apple Valley now.

I have some very reasonably priced equipment, much cheaper than play it again sports. What skate and helmet size are you looking for? Patrick Eisele

If you're on the north end of town, Dave's Sport Shop in Fridley generally has a pretty good selection of used skates, reasonably priced. I'd offer you some of my old gear but you'd swim in it!

Hey Amanda, I have some elbow pads, good for starting up and free if you want them, they're in my donation pile of stuff. I work in Eden Prairie and live near 50th/France if you want them, no problem either way. Ralph
