Recovering from injury?

I've been thinking about how awful it is to wait and wait for an injury to heal enough to play again. Have you been injured? How did you deal with the interim healing time? Did you get back on the ice faster or slower than you'd hoped?

I dislocated my kneecap on April 26th during the warm up for a game that night. I went to the doc on the 27th and they told me to take at least 1 week off and after that it would be a pain management issue. I only missed one week but hated even that. I wanted to skate on May 10th but didn't because of what the doctor said. I also picked up a knee brace to wear while skating for a while. Don't really like the brace but at least I can skate with it!

I had broken both bones in my arm during a jms game in april of 2012. One of the breaks was a compound fracture and needed two surgeries and a skin graft. The doctors told me I would not be on skates for at least a year but I was golfing within 3 months and played my first jms game since the injury 6 months after the injury. And since I am on the topic I would just like to say thank you to all the people that helped when the injury occurred. It really showed how much people really care about eachother when playing jms hockey.

Had knee surgery 2nd week in January and skated February 26th. Recovered a lot faster than I originally thought I would. That first skate back was wobbly.

I broke my shoulder blade December 5th. I couldn't run because jarring it was too painful so I couldn't really stay in shape. However, I didn't use my sling more than a week and worked on physical therapy. So I was back in a game exactly four weeks from the injury. I was a little out of shape but back to game shape after skating 3 times that week. I think the physical movement made the difference on a speedy recovery. I'll be hard pressed to keep a cast on more than a week or two in the future.

two weeks ago I broke my fibula sliding into the boards. It was a lucky break as I do not need surgery and I am putting weight back on it and moving around without crutches. I have already be been passing the puck some with my son and doing some dryland stuff in the garage to pass the time. As much as I don't want to, I think I am going to stay away from hockey for the summer and work on rehabing my ankle. Then I know for sure that it will be ready and at full strength for the fall.

good idea to rehab the ankle. I broke my fibula and damaged the ligaments in my ankle on Feb 1st. My ankle was in really bad shape. I got the go ahead to play at the end of June. I have skated 4 times in July and am almost back to "normal". If I wouldn't have gone to rehab, I would be in a word of hurt.

It took me 4 years to get back to being able to play without pain. That was a neck injury. Much slower than hoped- but that allowed me to focus on Yoga and my cycling quite a bit. Very happy to be skating again.
